Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (commonly referred to as “FERPA” or the “Buckley Amendment”), students have a right to consent to disclosures of their Education Records.

NEW!

  • Students may grant anyone access to view elements of their student record that are protected by FERPA using the Web Proxy Management system in Banner Self-Service. Those granted access will be referred to as a “Proxy.” Proxy users will be given their own login information to access the system.
  • Students may also grant their Proxy permission to speak to designated College representatives (via telephone) about data on authorized pages as indicated in the Proxy Management system.
  • *Students can grant, update, and/or revoke Proxy access at any time.*
  • The WEB PROXY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DIRECTIONS guide with screenshots is available on the MyLafayette portal in the ‘Registration & Academic Record’ block.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • You should never give your own login credentials to another user – Proxy users will be given their own login information to access the system.
  • You grant/update/revoke Proxy access at any time.
  • Your recorded preferred first name will display in the Proxy Management system.
  • The pages available to share with your Proxy are the same view as you can see in your Banner Self-Service account.
    • Financial Aid pages will only be available to share if you receive financial aid.
  • Passphrase – Optional: you may provide a passphrase and passphrase hint if you grant permission for designated Lafayette College staff members permission to speak with your Proxy via telephone.
    • College staff will only be able to discuss the parts of your record selected under “Authorizations.”
    • If provided, you must share the passphrase and hint with your Proxy. (When calling, Proxies will also be required to verify your date of birth and Lafayette email address.)
    • Providing a passphrase does not constitute consent to the disclosure of other protected student information to your Proxy.
    • Providing a passphrase does not grant authority to your Proxy to act on your behalf, but rather serves to provide access to certain protected student information as indicated in the Proxy Management system.
    • If no passphrase is provided, no student information will be discussed with your Proxy.
